The mission of Healthy Petaluma is to improve the health and well-being of all members of the community. Our vision is a healthier community with local access to comprehensive health and wellness services for all of our residents.

Healthy Petaluma is a community-owned and -operated public agency that has been serving the health and wellness needs of southern Sonoma County residents for more than 75 years, without the benefit of any tax revenue.

Healthy Petaluma’s boundaries were created in 1946 and include Petaluma, Penngrove, Cotati, and parts of Rohnert Park.

  • Health care districts are special districts created by voters to fulfill local health care needs, providing access to essential services and promoting community health within their boundaries.

  • Special districts are local agencies that provide a multitude of services to benefit their communities. All special districts are directly accountable to their residents through direct elections to the Board of Directors, annual reporting requirements, and open meeting laws.

  • Healthy Petaluma District and Foundation consistently works toward improving access to health services, attracting additional services to our community and advocating for southern Sonoma County on health issues. Healthy Petaluma is governed by a publicly elected five-member board of directors to serve southern Sonoma County. These volunteer directors serve a four-year term and may serve multiple consecutive terms. The CEO provides strategic direction to managers and administration.

  • We welcome community members to join regularly scheduled public board meetings, which take place on the third Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted. The directors and staff meet in person at 5401 Old Redwood Hwy. , Petaluma, CA 94954. The agenda for each meeting includes the meeting time as well as a link to join virtually.

  • Absolutely, and we encourage you to do so! The Community Health Initiative of Petaluma Area (CHIPA) is an excellent place for community members to provide input on Healthy Petaluma’s work. The meetings also connect participants with one another, creating a collaborative space for residents and community partners to work together for a greater impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. The sale of Petaluma Valley Hospital to its new owner/operator was finalized in January 2021 after the final sales agreement was approved by voters in Healthy Petaluma’s jurisdiction. The new owner/operator of the hospital is NorCal HealthConnect, a subsidiary of Providence.

    In the final agreement, Providence committed to maintain the facility as an acute-care hospital with an emergency department for a minimum of 20 years. If you have more questions about other details of the agreement, please see the final executed purchase agreement or reach out to Healthy Petaluma staff at 707-285-2143.

  • With the sale of Petaluma Valley Hospital in the rearview mirror, Healthy Petaluma is looking ahead and working toward a healthy community in concert with our partners. We serve as leaders advocating for the health and well-being of the southern Sonoma County community by strategically closing funding gaps for local health initiatives, building on existing connections among our community partners, and providing certain services directly to our community.

  • Healthquest is a department of Healthy Petaluma. Healthquest is an American Heart Association authorized training center that provides CPR training, AED sales, supplies and training, and other services. As part of our goal of fostering a healthy southern Sonoma County, HealthQuest provides life-saving education and services that make our community more heart-healthy.
